Update for the 2019 Riding Season
I was such an advocate for the Yarmouth – Maine Route, and the ferry service altogether that I became an agent! How cool is that?! I love ferries on bike trips – you get to move a little and rest your arse. The ferry from Bar Harbour is a great option to avoid miles of interstate. If you do choose to take the ferry, please book with me! As an agent, you get any specials that are offered, including Rally pricing. It is such a help to have some income while just talking about bike trips. When you’re ready to book, grab the following info and give me a ring. 1(902)870-4630.
Because Bar Harbor is being re-established for the US port of call, Bookings are only available at the end of the summer of 2019. In the event that there are delays, your scheduled trip can either be a)rescheduled, b)immediately scheduled from St. John, NB to Digby, c) 100% refunded.
What You Need to Make a Reservation
Information required in order to complete a reservation:
1. Dates of travel to and from (if it is a return trip)
2. Full names of passengers
3. License plate # (if it is your bike). If you are driving a rental bike, I don’t need the plate #. (Please note, If you are renting in the US, then traveling to Canada, you will need an insurance note from the rental company – tell them you’re coming here and they’ll know what you need)
4. If travelling on The CAT, valid passports are required for each passenger. I’ll require both your Passport numbers and expiry dates.
5. Valid credit card – American Express, Visa, Mastercard
I am in talks with a hotel in Yarmouth to get a deal on staying there when you arrive. It is necessary to book a hotel when you book the ferry as the next town for a place to stay is far into the night as you ride. I’m working on a package that will let me book you in at the same time, so you don’t have to worry about anything. Also, booking with me will save you a little money. I will update soon.

The rstes you printed are for off season!
Hi Stu! Thanks for making this site work by helping out with details. What are the season rates? I posted these first thing in the spring – that would be the reason for the error.
posted on the Nova Star website. Motorcycle, rider and passenger 50.00 dollars each. One way.
Woo hoooo!!!
Nova Star ferry between Portland Maine and Yarmouth Nova Scotia doesn’t seem to be doing to well. Too bad. Hope things get better for them.
Ooops…meant to leave a link.

Word has it that the Novastar ferry wasn’t so much the right boat for the Portland – Yarmouth market as it was a firesale bargain of a ship that was originally built for a French buyer in need of much more capacity. The end result is too much ship for the nascent Maine – Nova Scotia market. In five or ten years of careful nurturing, there might be the demand to support a ferry as large as the Novastar, but right now it’s too much boat and it’s hard to make the numbers work in these early seasons.
Frustrating because I jumped on the opportunity and took my motorcycle over to NS on the very second official crossing last May. I hope this awesome resource doesn’t go bust.
